Lec 1

Sir,

Today i downloaded the first lecture file from your site, but couldn't view it properly. You were mentioning it would be in pdf format but it was a shockwave flash object.

I also saw that you had mentioned about affording higher bandwidth in your web page. You can actually try Adrive (thankfully sastra isn't blocking it), they provide you with 50 GB of online space and you can just link the download file to your web page for public sharing.

Here's the link:

Thanks

Shriram

Greetings!

Hello Professor,

Thank you so much for visiting my blog and those kind words.

I indeed have a lot to share with the world. But there are a number of constraints and I have to give all the time for studies (Ph.D. is just one iron in the fire).

You have a good blog here; scholarly! I have a soft corner for science and laboratory. The girl I have been in 'unrequited' love with is with the NCBS; soon leaving for Postdoc (US)!

Thanks once again. I will surely inform you when I resume blogging.I am quite a writer/thinker and my blood often boils given the condition of our country! Your heart also bleeds for the nation, needless to say.

Regards,

Vikas Gupta,

JNU,
New Delhi.

Fasting during solar eclipse

Prof,
I scoured the net for scientific evidence on the need for fasting during solar eclipse and found none. Being an atheist, I am skeptical if this is just a myth conjured by religion. What's your take on this whole fasting thing? Just Hindu mythology or does it have any scientific credibility?

professor,

Now, i.e. in 21st century people are trying to get the scientific reason for religious(spiritual, super natural...) statements.
so,how can we treat religion as just "a mode of communication of science, centuries ago"?
if religion is just a mode to communicate science, there should not be anything in the world unanswered by science?
sir, what is your opinion about this statement?
